♥ Ethel - My Wonderful Nan ♥

♥ On December 31st 1996 Ethel passed away after a short illness which was exacerbated by long term breathing problems and I had the good fortune to hold her hand as she slipped away. She was a wonderful mum, a fantastic nan and my partner in crime! She loved her family unconditionally and her sense of humour was second to none!

♥ Born in London's East End in May 1908, Ethel remained there all her life and often commented on the changes that were occuring on almost a daily basis - she loved some and loathed some. She had a very keen interest in politics and was involved in many an action group. When she was well into her 60's, Ethel joined in lobbying the MP's at the Houses of Parliament over the Rights of Pensioners!

♥ Ethel had been a widow for more than 30 years after losing her beloved husband, Bill, to cancer in the early 1970's. She and Bill had eight children, twelve grandchildren, and at the last count, 15 great-grandchildren... if only they could have seen them all.

♥ Everyone who knew Ethel loved her, and we miss her still. Very much indeed...

Those we love remain with us
For love itself lives on,
And cherished memories never fade
Because a loved one's gone.

Those we love can never be
More than a thought apart,
For as long as there is memory,
They'll live on in the heart.

In Sympathy

So sorry for your loss. My nan passed away last year and it feels like my whole world has been taken away. My thoughts are with you. God bless. I hope you find this poem of comfort, as I have done. x

What is Dying?

A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon and someone at my side says 'She is gone'.

Gone where? Gone from my sight, that is all. She is just as large now as when I last saw her. Her diminished size and total loss from my sight is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says she is gone there are others who are watching her coming over their horizon and other voices take up a glad shout 'There she comes!'

That is what dying is. An horizon and just the limit of our sight.

Lift us up, Oh Lord, that we may see further.

A LETTER FROM HEAVEN

I’m writing this from heaven where I dwell with God above,
Where there’s no more tears and sadness,
There is just eternal love.

When you’re walking down the street and you’ve got me on your mind,
I’m walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when you feel that gentle breeze or the wind upon your face,
That’s me giving you a great big hug or just a soft embrace.

And when it’s time for you to go from that body to be free,
Remember you are not going you are coming here to me.
